I read my first John Stott book as a junior in college in the early 90's. I found his articulation of the Christian faith to be well thought out and intellectually satisfying. He did not shy away from hard problems or difficult cultural trends while communicating in a manner that was humble yet confident. It was through his teaching that I first encountered intellectually cogent and persuasive reasoning for believing in the physical resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The study sessions include: 1. The Problem of Culture 5. Developing a Christian Mind 6. Making an Impact on Society.

John R. W. Stott is known worldwide as a preacher, evangelist, and communicator of Scripture. For many years he served as rector of All Souls Church in London, where he carried out an effective urban pastoral ministry. Whether in the West or in the Two-Thirds World, a hallmark of Stott's ministry has been expository preaching that addresses the hearts and minds of contemporary men and women. Stott was honored by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World. Stott explains why the Old and New Testaments still form the authoritative basis for Christian faith . This is a fine little book (really a booklet given that it is only about 30 pages) looking at the Authority of Scripture. Stott explains why the Old and New Testaments still form the authoritative basis for Christian faith and practice. Stott has as an easy to read style, and here he approaches quite simply what can be quite a big topic - by basing it around Jesus. Jesus himself places authority in the Old Testament (which were his scriptures), and he gives authority to the Apostles from whom the New Testament would arise.

John Stott’s position affirming the Church’s traditional teaching on marriage and opposition to homosexual activity .

John Stott’s position affirming the Church’s traditional teaching on marriage and opposition to homosexual activity has been widely accepted among Anglican evangelicals. His argument and its Biblical basis are set forth at some length. In his book Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism, Spong denied that Jesus was born of a virgin and disputed the Church’s traditional understanding of the resurrection of Jesus. McGrath is quoted as saying that Spong’s somewhat modest theological competenc. is) vastly exceeded by his ability to obtain media attention (page 309).
