Ms. Connolly's name belongs right up there along with Arthur Waite and Crowley. She is a genius in her own right. More than simply an adept at tarot divination. Her books and her two decks, The Connolly Tarot and the Feng Shui tarot are mind blowing. Buy the books first, starting with the Apprentice, then this one, the Journeyman and finally the Master. If you are looking for real meaning for yourself and your spirtuality, she has the answers.

I found the book interesting. It is the 2nd book in the series, so you should read the first one. She has a different approach to the tarot.

The book is hard to read, written in complex ways making it difficult to understand, but there are great spreads in it that you won't find anywhere else.

I bought this approximately 20 years ago. (Mid 90s) Since I wasn't a beginner, I didn't bother with the Apprentice Handbook as I didn't need to learn the general meanings of the cards etc;I was bored with all the Tarot books out there and hungry for something that would help me develop even more as a reader.

However, Connelly has her own system, and one has to be able to have a working knowledge of that system to go further with her system. ( So I bought the Apprentice Handbook!);-)
In the Journeyman Handbook, Connolly has an intricate system that once learned enables a reader to indicate precise time frames, including how to interpret this information further according to which cards drawn and which type of card as well.
I found this approach interesting although quite different than my usual methods. I did appreciate using a new way to develop a spread, and, even elements of Connolly's that I wouldn't typically have been drawn to- were interesting and rather enlightening. I find that I learn at least one thing different or new from every reader or book, and Eileen Connoly's Tarot Handbook for the Journeyman has several new methods or aspects of such that I wasn't sorry I bought this at all.
However, having said that, I found I wasn't completely won over to these methods as in order to develop a spread according to the author's exact formulas- at least *some* of my [long- time] way of interpreting would have to be abandoned and evidently I *didnt* like doing so.:-)

Another fact worth mentioning is that Connelly brings a mild Christian flavor to her Tarot reading. This is done gently and kindly; it is inoffensive. And after all, I was raised Christian. Nonetheless I say "raised" not "am" Christian because I can't adhere to any one religious belief. Spirituality is the cornerstone of my life if you will. I believe in God/Goddess/Allah/Higher Power/ Creator/Great Spirit/ All-That-Is. I don't think there's only one path to the Divine.
Therefore- Connolly's subtle Christian - "tint" to her art may or may not make a difference to some readers. Enough said.

At the time I bought this book the Master's Handbook appeared not to have been finished,so in time I stopped looking.
Now that I see it was, finally, completed, I may retrace my steps and buy it as the spiritual concepts, especially her methods re: reincarnation and karmic lessons appeal to me more.
So...to be continued....(maybe).

In vol II, I was delighted to read a Tarotologist who goes into depth on the art of reading Tarot well, rather than sticking only to card interpretations, as so many modern authors do. This is not a repeat of all the other Tarot books you've bought this past 20 years. lol

This series was written for those who love Tarot and want to delve into her depths. I've been reading 20 plus years, Connolly Tarot deck was the first I've owned, Ms. Connolly has a gift. If you are a weekend Tarot reader or only interested in mundane Tarot, this book may not be for you. I recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone who truly wishes to create a lasting bond to the Oracle.

Last, I own everything Ms. Connolly has written; I have only good things to say.
