Robert and Janice Maddox have been married for twenty years. Their marriage was arranged by Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church and The Family Federation for World Peace. In their book, Robert and Janice Maddox take the five basic elements of sin identified in most theological views: first, the failure to see God’s viewpoint, which leads to the second: a departure from the individual’s proper role, resulting in the third: an unauthorized pursuit of power and control over others.

Part Three focuses on the interrelationship between the physical and the spiritual body and goes into detail discussing the human aura and the chakras that comprise the form and function of the energetic spirit body.

DEEP Origin Healing and the Origin of Personality Distortion draws from differing world views to gain new insights into transpersonal healing. The emotional process/energy paradigms that define character structures were originally outlined in the groundbreaking work of Dr. Wilhelm Reich, a student of Freud, and those who followed: Alexander Lowen (Bioenergetics), Dr. John Pierrakos (Core Energetics), Eva Pierrakos (Pathwork), Donovan and Susan Thesenga, Barbara Brennan, Dr. Alima Hamilton, and others. The development of these emotional/energy paradigms began the process of bringing awareness and integration of unconscious emotional patterns to people who were looking for a deeper understanding of human dysfunction. These psychological and transpersonal energy-based paradigms look at the root causes of suffering on an individual level. To this process DEEP Origin Healing integrates Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s profound explanation of the fall of man, described in the Divine Principle, as the original separation humanity experienced from God and, therefore, the source of human suffering on an historical level. Part One examines the microcosm and macrocosm paradigm. From the interconnectedness between ourselves and the universe we can begin to understand the reality of spiritual principles that reveal our relationship with both the physical and spiritual realms. Part Two draws comparisons between the fallen human natures outline in Divine Principle and the psychodynamic personality distortions, also known as defenses. This combined approach to the psychological and theological origin of human suffering is the foundation for the development of the ideas presented in this book. Part Three focuses on the interrelationship between the physical and the spiritual body and goes into detail discussing the human aura and the chakras that comprise the form and function of the energetic spirit body. Following this is a description of the Core Personality Traits and the mask energy that distorts them. Part Four concludes “Where there is Divine Energy, there can be Emotional Process” exploring the possibility that Divine Energy and Heart is accessible to all of humanity no matter what our life experience. Building on the content in previous sections, methods of introspection and personal development are outlined for couples and individuals committed to a healing path. With many diagrams, illustrations, a glossary, index and detailed bibliography this is an excellent healing resource for anyone who is interested in a synthesis of the worlds of psychology and spirituality.

It seems the concepts of religion and science continue to occupy the public discourse, resulting in more conflict than harmony regardless of how much the body of knowledge has expanded. Most religious belief systems rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition see the original story of Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden as the root of human suffering and spiritual distress. Whether the details are regarded as factual or allegorical, the majority will agree that dysfunctional aspects of that original “first” family have been multiplied and permeated into a tangled mess far more complex than any fisherman’s worst nightmare of knotted fish lines.

In their book, Robert and Janice Maddox take the five basic elements of sin identified in most theological views: first, the failure to see God’s viewpoint, which leads to the second: a departure from the individual’s proper role, resulting in the third: an unauthorized pursuit of power and control over others. This leads to the desire to involve others in a combined multiplication of such actions intended to ease the conscience and justify the “deviant” thought and action (the fourth level). Ultimately, this ends in the fifth: a reluctance to take responsibility by blaming others.

While these five “fallen natures” are regarded in religious circles as sources of dysfunctional human relationships, they are not acknowledged by social scientists. Looking at the chemistry of the brain, theories of genetic transfer, Electra and Oedipus complexes, and the like seems a more “reasonable” explanation than some “hokey” mythological fairy tale explanation.

In their book, the Maddoxes have built interesting bridges where they have noted the intersecting lines of these two approaches. They describe how the intellectual and physical evidence does align with the spiritual and theological substantiation. My wife and I have had the good fortune to attend a series of “couples” discussions on this content, facilitated by the Maddoxes, and it has certainly deepened our understanding of how these five character types have emerged and often interfered with our relationships with each other and in a rippling effect on our extended relationships – as a couple, as a family, and beyond. I highly recommend the book.

This is a ground-breaking read on the topic of the deepest causes of mental illness, taking into account a totally holistic view of human nature - spiritual, mental, emotional and physical. We are coming into an age where dividing human nature and problems into tidy separate boxes will no longer work in an intercultural, inter-religious world, and where we have the opportunity now to blend the best-working insights from spiritual, cultural and psychological traditions around the world and come up with a much more profound and holistic paradigm for dealing with mental illness no matter where in the world we happen to live. This partnership book by Robert and Janice Maddox is doing just that. It needs to be read slowly as there is much to absorb, but it is well worth the effort and their insights are profound.

Finally a book that organically, integrates the Unificationist teaching about root of all evil with modern psychoanalysis discoveries in human behavior. I have studied dozens of books and attended several workshops on the new age modalities such as positive thinking, manifesting, etc, as well I have been a certified life coach and studied Unificationist teachings for the last 30 years, but I have struggled to integrate all of that , in a way this book does. Especially chapter six, has brought me to my knees into tears. I can't thank Bob and Janice enough for daring to write this book. let's keep up the discussion at this page https://www.facebook.com/DeepOriginHealing

The authors have written this book from the point of view of knowledgeable members of the Unification Church, so there is some elements of religious teaching to be found herein which may not match a given reader's, but the book does contain timeless truths and good personal advice, especially for those who have issues in their past which continue to bother them.

The book is well written and is definitely a good read.

It's a bomb!. I came to believe that what I did for the past many years was because I developed confidence with 'I can'.
Instead I utilised a rigidity I have ignored all my life and, not only that, I reinforced it. Yet, it is since decades that I chose to live
in search for god and his ideal. With this book, 'I can' takes an entire new meaning.

This book is far more than a mere assessment of human foibles. It not only points out possible sources for the ills that beset humans in relationship-building as well as individual achievement, but also provides very down-to-earth guidelines for clearing the conflicts that hold back people in meeting their goals. As a clinical therapist I find it to be a helpful tool in assisting clients in assessing the blocks to their fulfillment. I recommend it to my colleagues as well as my patients, and believe it deserves a place in academia as a practical modality for people to resolve the barriers between their faulty concepts and the achievement of personal wholeness. I look forward to Volume 2.
