by Aleister Crowley

This book by Crowley promises much, and yet of Crowley's vast written output, few titles are found . But, he is Aleister Crowley and if one decides to read a Crowley book; I would choose "Magick In Theory & Practice".

This book by Crowley promises much, and yet of Crowley's vast written output, few titles are found outside of the mausoleum, and fewer yet offer any biographical scope of the author. Nov 03, 2018 Joshua rated it it was amazing.

Although this book is but an extensive outline of Aleister Crowley's many books, it gives the reader a fairly solid understanding of why the book was written and for whom it was written, that being anyone and everyone. It also provides diagrams, background information on the many cultures upon which Mr. Crowley relied to formulate his theories, detailed rituals, and a very comprehensive bibliography. The subject matter is not for everyone, though it is certainly not as sensational and diabolical as most would believe.

This short book is presumptious and is very formulaic, lacking true style. Probably essential for followers of Crowley, but not appealing to the casual reader.

Very dense book... if you have no prior training to any magical practice it would be very hard to follow.

The one star is not for the content. The content is 5 stars. The rating is for the printing of the book. It looks like someone downloaded a txt file version off the internet and used a small press like lulu or similar to print it. There is no formatting outside of that which would of been found in the txt file. Very poor effort.

It is the kind of book one comprehends with the "gut" more so than the brain, i.e. you either get it or you don't. I believe those who get it will be very pleased with the book, as I was; those who don't probably wouldn't want this book in the first place, or perhaps they were seeking it for the wrong reasons. I have a long way to go to finish it, and an even longer way to go to fully understand it. As soon as I've worked my way through more of the book, I intend to order more of Mr. Crowley's books, to which he refers extensively in this one, and which are necessary to develop a fuller understanding of this one.

Good read for those interested. To those on the outside, this is not the book to begin with. Worth having in your library.

Risky Strong Dromedary
The book is great, but the text does strange wraparounds, which can be confusing at times. Also the footnotes are printed right where they're cited, which is very confusing until you get what's going on. If not for that it would get 5 stars. Crowley's books are near perfect in content and in prose.

I expected to find the psuedo-scientific explanation of magick in the beginning of the book. It's not there. It starts with Frather Therion's rambling explanations of magick.

This book covers everything that a true practitioner must know when approaching magick. The first half of the book is highly informative, and helps you cover all the bases in creating the proper mood sets as well as enviroment for your work. The second half contains several of the most important magickal rituals of Thelema, the most important being the Star Ruby banishing. If you are interested in the Occult at all, or are a magick practioner, GET THIS BOOK. You will not regret it. I have two of Crowley's other books, and they're a bit difficult to digest, but this is very smooth reading. HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
