A DELICATE FLOWER Lady Caroline Burroughs is desperate. I really loved this story very much. I thought that this story moved along very well and was totally romantic from the beginning and right to the end. The setting in England and Scotland were beautiful. I feel if you like Scottish Lairds and equally strong English Roses, you will love this story. That is all I can say. It is a must read. Very absorbing and moving romance. A Delicate Flower

Lady Caroline Burroughs is desperate. Her unscrupulous guardian is squandering away her inheritance, and now wants to gain complete control over her dwindling wealth by forcing her to wed his aged crony. But Caroline has found a solution to her woes. Though it means surrendering her long-cherished dream of marrying for love, she agrees to a preemptive temporary union with a devilishly handsome stranger -- a brave and noble Scotsman who believes that love is an illusion.

A Thorny Romance

Major Hugh MacColme has every reason to hate the British -- since the Crown stole his ancestral castle and sent his father and brother into exile. And he never imagined he would end up marrying one of the enemy. But a year spent in the intimate company of an exquisite English rose seems a small price to pay for recovering his birthright. For tender-hearted Caroline, however, the difficult part will be coping with her unexpected desire for this proud and distant man -- and harder still, convincing Hugh that the wife he has no use for is the warm and healing love that he truly needs.

My first book by Joan Overfield and I really enjoyed it. The heroine was a young English woman whose parents were dead, her guardian was her Uncle Charles, an earl and a cheat. He wants her money so he decides to marry her off to his wastrel friend who is 40ish and not a suitable husband for our English "Rose" whose name is actually Caroline.

Concurrent with the above, our hero, Hugh, is a man who gave up hearth and home in Scotland to do his duty by serving in the English army for 14 long years so his clan, of which his father was chieftain, could keep their way of life. His efforts weren't appreciated by his father nor his younger brother. Nevertheless, Hugh does what he feels is best even though it meant being disowned by his father.

He's back home only to realize the lands he gave up 14 years of his life for have been possessed by the English government and his father, younger brother and a couple of others have been transported. But... Hugh isn't without friends, so he calls upon a duke who owes him big time for saving his life during the war between England and the colonies. The duke just happens to be our English Rose's grandfather who Caroline has never had the opportunity to become acquainted with because he's been out of England serving in the various wars.

Hugh and Caroline arrive at the duke's home at about the same time with their requests for the duke's help. Oh yes, he hatches up a plan that will help both of them get out of their respective troubles. Marriage will protect Caroline and her wealth. Marriage will help Hugh because in England he will henceforth be known as the grandson of the old duke. Yes, indeed. Well, Hugh and Caroline are both wary because of life's experiences which have not always been fair. She doesn't want anyone bossing her around - she's had enough of it with her Uncle Charles. Hugh is nothing if not a war sharpened military man who's been accustomed to ordering people around.

I loved the way Hugh immediately made it clear to Caroline she was under his protection and bad old Uncle Charles would henceforth have to come through Hugh to get to her. I also loved the way Caroline fought for her own freedom to a point. Some parts of the book were a bit dumb when she gets very careless considering the bad guys her uncle sets on her trail. At the end of the day, however, I love seeing our big, strong, commander of a hero, fall hard into the arms of love.

Hugh a man from Scotland fought for England for apparently no reason. His brother and father were captured and sent to a penal colony about four years ago. And the estate was sold. Now he looks to the general for help. The general will help him get his land back if he will marry the man's granddaughter. She needs protection from a greedy uncle trying to get his hands on her money. If Hugh and her marry then her uncle shouldn't be able to have her committed as she would be her husband's responsibility. But the marriage doesn't stop her uncle and eventually they return to Scotland. How will she be treated considering the English are pretty hated right now. Can she win over his people? Will their marriage continue to grow? This was a very well written and entertaining historical romance.

This was and interesting medieval romance. The setting was well described. Culture of the Highlanders, Clans
ran strong. Although it was somewhat disturbing that the leading characcters never had a conversation to get their
positions settled. Always misunderstandings. And time after time the female character would put herself in danger,
never considering the knowledge of her husband, the laird of the clan, of the dangers in the wild area outside the
"fort" of the castle. It got a little tiring. Over all it was interesting to learn more of the Highland lifestyle.

I am not a Highlander fan. Overblown Scottish brute romances are not my cup of tea. That being said, this book is no such thing. It is a Marriage of convenience traditional regency romance with a Scottish hero. The Scot history is interesting as is the social inequality theme. I wish there had been a little more detail regarding Caroline's eventual acceptance by the people of Loch Haven, but otherwise it was a great book. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.

Good Story!

I enjoyed reading this story. The story line was easy to follow and the story was well written. The author drew the reader in and allowed the reader feel the emotions of the characters. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, and romance. I would have like different ending where the father, and brother returns and the story could have other possibilities but it would be nice see the birth of the baby.

A Rose into Scotland is a depiction of how magic a union can be if only you have complete trust in your partner. It is well written and fast paced. Each page had you rooting for the couple. The author holds your interest with a vice grip and does not let go until the final page (which comes too soon.) Ms Overfield is now on my favored author list.

If you love this genre: Scotland, handsome man, beautiful woman who is forced to make some difficult, painful decisions and lots of villains, pain in the butt family and hormones flying so fast you have to duck (sigh) than you will enjoy this story. I know I did...plus I don't give 5 stars that often...

This was a very good book. I was unsure when book seemed to stay in London, but did go to the highlands for most of the book. The book had good characters and the story was captivating.

My only regret that a series was did not go forward. There was so much potential for that, and many characters to work with.
