It provide a simple, common sense, enjoyable way to deal with many problems that new and not that new parents are facing: how to raise, educate a child, what to do when she cries, when she has tantrums, when she asks questions, actually everything is covered. It is easy to read, in short chapters of approx 50 pages for each age.
Dodson covers infancy, toddlerhood, "first adolescence", and preschool stages in addition to special parenting situations and health care. Virtually no pertinent topic is left out, and the breezy style filled with anecdotes about their own children makes this a pleasure to read. Dr. Dodson is a wonderful gem. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 18 years ago. I bought this book in the early 70's when my youngest daughter was born and I became a single parent. I found Dodson's methods made complete sense and felt natural to me, encouraging the practical use of his techniques (his 10 commandments) which were as much for my benefit as my daughter's.
