This is a smart, fast, and compelling chronicle of the rise of Boston Irish mobsters following the Second World War. It is also a powerful study of family-of characters related by blood and blood-letting, where the difference tests the meaning of the book's title. LOYALTY skillfully combines an intricate plot, a vivid sense of the period, and a rich cast of psychologically complex characters who evoke both our wrath and sympathy.
