The copy I have is a bit tattered, but my daughter and I love this book! The text has a flowing rhythm and and discusses, page by page, the wonderful colors (and symbols) of fall.

Brief verses explore the colors and activities of fall. The copy I have is a bit tattered, but my daughter and I love this book! The text has a flowing rhythm and and discusses, page by page, the wonderful colors (and symbols) of fall. It follows the changes that occur throughout the season- I cannot recomend it enough! My daughter is 22 months and she's entranced every time!

A pale, almost lackadaisical evocation of the colors of fall: green at first, then purple (shadows, flowers, hills and jelly), varied and changing colors on the trees, black and orange on Halloween, brown for nuts and leaves and late grass, then gray as the days grow shorter. As in Splish Splash and Slush Slush (both KR, 1973), more happy kids with smiley faces jog through the season, in easy to read, sometimes rhyming, blandly pleasant words and blurry watercolors that similarly disregard the nip in the autumn air.

Over the last 50 years I've written much in the children's field, told stories, read stories to my kids and grandkids, and read hundreds of books for young folks. It's a shame that some of the best books just seem to disappear.

This is one book that I wish were out again, especially in Kindle. The verse flows smoothly and the color illustrations are not fancy but something that children love. The author relates the colors of the fall so warmly with pitter-pat rhythm that kids love and repeat -- green for early fall, then turning to yellows and purples and many other colors winding up with pumpkin orange.

My 3 kids loved this book, my grandkids do now, and perhaps in 10 more years my great-grandkids will too. It's that kind of lasting book.
