René Catrijsse, deserteur in een koloniale oorlog, keert begin jaren zestig terug naar zijn Vlaamse geboortedorp.

Hugo Maurice Julien Claus (Dutch pronunciation: ; 5 April 1929 – 19 March 2008) was a leading Belgian author who published under his own name as well as various pseudonyms. Claus' literary contributions spanned the genres of drama, the novel, and poetry; he also left a legacy as a painter and film director. He wrote primarily in Dutch, although he also wrote some poetry in English. His death by euthanasia, which is legal in Belgium, led to considerable controversy.

De Geruchten werd bekroond met de Europese Aristeionprijs en de Libris Literatuur Prijs 1997 en geldt als een hoogtepunt in het indrukwekkende oeuvre van de Vlaamse taalvirtuoos. De geruchten - eBook. I don't know, i honestly don't. It's a nice book on simple people, living in a small village, getting involved in not so simple events, partially root caused in past and present wars. In part 1 we get in short chapters different viewpoints on the current events with now and then references to the past.

Beautifully translated from the Dutch by David Colmer, the IMPAC Award-winning translator of Gerbrand Bakker’s The Twin, Hugo Claus’s poems are remarkable for their dexterity, intensity of feeling, and acute intelligence. From the richly associative and referential Oostakker Poems to the emotional and erotic outpouring of the mad dog stanzas in Morning, You, from his interpretations of Shakespeare’s sonnets to a modern adaptation of a Sanskrit masterpiece, this volume reveals the breadth and depth of Claus’s stunning output.
