Joseph Morrison's parents were Hugh Morrison (1790? - 1834) and Mary Curran; his younger brother Angus Morrison, like Joseph, became a successful lawyer and politician. Joseph Morrison's father Hugh was born in Scotland, but moved to Ireland, where Joseph was born. Emmeline Morrison, m. James Oliver Buchanan of 186 St. George St. Elizabeth Morrison, m. Dr. James Buchanan Baldwin. 1816 in Ireland, eldest son of Hugh Morrison and his first wife, Mary Curran, and elder brother of Angus Morrison; m. 23 July 1845 Elizabeth Bloor, and they had three sons and three daughters; d. 6 Dec. 1885 in Toronto, Ont.

Emmeline is a haunting book, and one that I can certainly never forget. In Judith Rossner's skillful hands, this morality tale is spun with a simplicity and honesty that resonates with the reader long after the book is closed. That it is a true story makes it all the more unforgettable. Much is written these days about child abuse, and we as a society shake our heads and try to figure out ways to protect children.
