A very nice read. good dialog.

***SPOILERS**********************

A lonely widow woman is in desperate need of a live-in handy man so,
she puts an ad in the paper and -of course-Mr sexy, sexy California shows up
and fills the spot. The woman is Diana and the man is Zach. The woman
has two teen daughters (typical, but not too badly annoying) and nosy neighbors.
Zach is VERY attracted to Diana and her quiet, wholesome quality but,Diana is...
very straight laced mid western morals and does not want to appear to be having
an "affair" with her live in handy man even though she is a widow and over thirty.
so,what will happen to these two ?
Much of the story is Zach taking it slow and trying to win the heart of Diana. He
really IS a nice guy,but wants some loving too. This has sensitive dialog but,not
too preachy. The reader can see Zach's point of view and Diana's . The reward
is the end of the story and delight in knowing two hearts found each other despite
a few rocky moments. A nice one from this author, but old school (circa 1986).
***F.Y.I.,a couple VERY explicit lovemaking scenes but, described in a sensual way.****

This is a charming early Harlequin Temptation by Vicki Lewis Thompson. Our heroine Diana has been widowed for about a year and her house is in shambles- she needs a live in handyman- a Mr. Fixit for her plumbing and other homer repair needs. In desperation she places an ad in her hometown newspaper and along comes Zach- a hunky California beach boy working on his doctorate in Springfield , IL- he is studying Lincoln in his hometown and the opportunity for low rent and meals for a little home improvement work is great!

Until he meets his lovely landlady and her two teenage daughters- and they find out he is great at fixing things- like their loneliness and the empty space that their dad left- and the space in Diana's heart and bed. When it comes to home repairs though---- his skills are definitely not up to par which lead to some sweet humourous scenes. The relationship with this single mom who is entrenched in her midwestern hometown and the free spirited Californian progresses with care and ease. Zach is very respectful of Diana and her girls and their relationship. Was nice to see a man who really understood how circumspect a single mom needs to be with impressionable children under foot ( Allison and Laurie are 12 and 13).

Sexuality is on the warm not hot side- but the love and true depth of feeling comes through loud and clear. Definitely one for my keeper shelf.

Meh. If I recall correctly, this is either a dusted-off or spruced up older book of hers. I'm not crazy about it. The stereotypes she uses (nerd, Californian, etc) are getting rather old after reading a lot of her books. It's an okay story. The dialog between the characters and the kids is very tiresome. May not even finish this one!
