The Watchmen - Michael Allegretto. He was sitting at the wheel, hiding his face behind a paperback book. Lauren assumed he was waiting to pick up a city employee after work, perhaps his wife. He just sat, roasting in the mid-May afternoon sun with his engine off and the windows up, reading a book. Lauren walked to her car, glancing back once at the man. His face remained buried in his book.

The Watchmen - A Novel. I was disappointed with this book. The story is slow to reach it's climax, which is fairly exciting near the story's closure I admit.

Compared with his master piece "Shadow House" and another good thriller called "Night of Reunion" (filmed with Genie Francis) this was a let down. Maybe in 1991 it was thrilling, but for me it didn't stand the test of time.
Try "Shadow House" which is as spooky as a Stephen King book.
