Superior Death (Avalon Mystery). It was a quick mystery that I had figured out early. 0803497687 (ISBN13: 9780803497689). When Vince was told by the chief to stop pursuing his story, it became pretty clear the chief was kidding something from Vince. This was a quick read I was able to get through in one day.

Matthew Williams lives in Marquette, Michigan, on the southern shore of Lake Superior with his wife, Suzanne, and their son, Sam. Previously, Williams was an award-winning newspaper reporter, columnist, and author. he is showcasing the same area of the US as another VERY famous fave of mine, William Kent Kreuger. There isn't a difference in writing talent here, I think the difference is the depth of the characters.

Mustard Forgotten
Matthew Williams writes a tightly plotted, very regional mystery with lots of "local color"...he is showcasing the same area of the US as another VERY famous fave of mine, William Kent Kreuger. There isn't a difference in writing talent here, I think the difference is the depth of the characters. With Mr. Williams' characters, one knows they are "book people" and you wouldn't walk out of your door one morning and meet them....that being said, the books were quite enjoyable, without any draggy areas or boring bits, and I will definitely read more of them!

I really enjoyed the character of the protagonist's mom...and I loved the surprise ending, which I will NOT give away here.

Enjoyed this mystery that takes place in Norther Michigan. I started this book on a rainy day in my recliner with a cup of tea. Before I knew it, I had finished the whole book. I like the characters and the story is pretty believable. A good amount of action, but also plenty of humor. The reason I gave a 4 1/2 rating instead of 5 stars is due to the Kindle format. You cannot go to chapters individually and there is only one font available to choose. Good read and I have started the 2nd book in the series "Superior Deception" which I'm also enjoying. Recommend this book.

I enjoyed what I think was my first experience with this author. His writing is quite good and characters well developed. With one grand twist/surprise and a number of mis-directions, the story was compelling. My only complaint is that there was not a lot of action, save for the opening scene and a few non-violent crimes that may or may not be associated with the main mystery. I will likely read other works from Williams.

As a Michigan resident, I like to read "local" books, and this didn't disappoint. I will be reading the sequel as well. No graphic violence or sex. It was an intriguing mystery, and the protaganist was very real and human. I did suspect the outcome as I neared the end, but it didn't in any way lessen my enjoyment of the book. Very good read.

The main character is a father who is supposed to be the primary caretaker of his daughter while his wife works. He's also a part time reporter. He sometimes forgets and leaves his daughter in the car while chasing suspects and/or forgets to change her diaper but it's a small town and she doesn't come to any harm. Meanwhile he gets the story and the bad guys are caught. I've already purchased another book in the series.

The book started off slow and I nearly quit reading, which I hardly ever do. That part deserves two stars. Half way through it picked up and I started speed reading. Some nice twists. That part gets four stars so it averages to three.

Apostle Bay is a small town on Lake Superior. Reporter Vince Marshall works for the local newspaper, and has all of the pressures of a difficult boss, and a wife and daughter who is a toddler. His mother is acting a little strange and may be involved with a murder, and he thinks his wife may be having an affair. All in all, his plate is full. Interesting mystery that has a good plot and characters that seem to be real people.
