Walt spotted her right away, standing amid the knot of customers who waited out front as he unlocked the doors: nineteen, twenty years old. Belly about to burst. When Walt saw that smile, the first thing that came to mind was Emily.

I Beverley Samuels has the body of a schoolgirl on her hands – a murder that brings back the hauntingly painful memories of the case she's tried so desperately to forget. There's something deeply disturbing about this crime – and yet with little hard evidence it's up to her to decide who she will believ. iss Her Goodbye is a dark psychological crime novel featuring a brilliantly manipulative psychopath – and with.

KISS IT GOODBYE isn't a bad novel-it's simply a little too confusing at times with one too many plot twists for its own good. I had a difficult time keeping track of all the characters and how they were involved with each other, plus I ended up with more questions than answers when the book reached its final few pages. What did make the novel fun for me were Harding and Alison. They remind me a lot of the "Kenzie/Gennaro" characters in the series by Dennis Lehane

Houston Cash is an ex-cop turned private investigator who doesn't expect his life to be extraordinary, and that's just how he likes it. But that's rarely how it seems to work out for him. His cases tend to take him places where he has to employ his skills, his sense of humor, and his sense of right and wrong to maximum effect to solve the problems of the interesting people who walk through his door. Though his network of friends and contacts help him navigate the labyrinths he encounters, it almost always boils down to Houston's own abilities to see a case through to the end.

When Houston makes the acquaintance of a bank executive's wife, he finds himself thrust in a world of money, sex, murder, and double-crosses; it's just another day for a detective (or so it seems). But this woman is about to lead him on a path of twists and turns with an unexpected finale, and not everyone survives. Can Houston's instincts help him stay out of too much of the trouble she represents?

Houston Cash is an ex-cop who has opened up his own private eye firm. When a gorgeous woman comes into his office and says she believes she has a stalker, Cash is ready to take on the job. With things becoming more interesting and going off in unexpected directions, Cash quickly wonders what he got himself involved with.

Burgess painted his characters with a realistic brush, making them relatable and thereby humanizing them. One thing that I wish there was less of was comparisons to movies/TV or actors, because some of them didn't mean anything to me. An author has to be careful when using these types of comparisons that they don't lose their reader. The narrative also had included a lot of clichéd phrases, but I appreciate the character (Cash) is an older man so he would think this way. I just think maybe the author could have used a little less of them.

But overall I would certainly recommend KISS HER GOODBYE. The twists and turns in the book provided wonderful pacing and made the reading time enjoyable and addictive.

Harvey Burgess throws enough twists and turns into KISS HER GOODBYE to keep even the most fanatical PI fan guessing! Houston Cash is a great character - integrity balanced with pragmatism and grit. He's struggling with a past divorce, working in a small, grim office, and isn't flavor of the month with all of the local cops. Hungry for a new case, his outlook brightens when the beautiful wife of a billionaire banker strolls into his office. Cissy Devore needs help in finding and stopping a stalker. Although she can't provide a good description of the man and Cash senses she's not coming totally clean with him, he decides to take the case. Cash discovers that Cissy is being followed, but by other men who have been hired to protect her, too!

It turns out that his client is hiding a lot in her life, including her involvement in a evangelical church. When a kidnapper snatches Cissy and the TV evangelist's wife, Cash follows the abductor's trail, finding that not everyone is who or what they seem, and sometimes even the baddies have good, if naive, intentions. (Every time I thought I'd pegged the bad guy, Burgess would throw a wrench into the plot and provide a viable alternative!)

The dialogue is great, the characters well sketched, the pace fast and at times furious. I really enjoyed Houston Cash and his supporting cast, and am eagerly awaiting the next Cash novel... Five stars!

Kiss Me Goodbye was a detective romp similar to Robert Parker's protagonist, Jesse Stone. I enjoyed the author's fun similes such as "I was starving like a fly on a cow patty" and his use of TV and radio references. Burgess' turns of phrase were interesting like: Wishes were horses I'd never ride again."
The plot had numerous twists and turns, and kept me wondering what the next page would bring. If you enjoy smart alecky detectives, Houston Cash is your man. Great story and good work from the author.

Two thumbs up for Harvey Burgess and "Kiss Her Goodbye".

After reading the first available pages on Amazon, I couldn't put it down so I purchased it. This plot is well written, with likeable characters that I hope Harvey brings into the next book as well. I'm anxious to see what Houston Cash's next assignment will be.

I won't mention much about the story line since there are other reviews as well, but if you want something fun, entertaining, well written and with very likeable characters I recommend this book. Seriously, I mean it. You don't want to miss this. :)

Kiss Her Goodbye: A Houston Cash Novel

This book has so many twists and turns in it, that you keep solving the mystery (wrongly) throughout the entire book. This is a blend of James Patterson, Agatha Christie and John Grisham all in one.

The twists began almost immediately, the main character, Houston Cash, was hired by a beautiful woman. She said she was being followed, but as Houston starts out on his investigation, following his new client, he starts questioning how truthful his client has really been.

Love the book! If you are in NC you should check the author's website for book signing opportunities. You can write the author from his blog: [...]

This is the first of what I hope will be a very long series of books. Congratulations, Harvey on a great book!

This story is well told. Burgess seems to channel Raymond Chandler and Robert Parker with his first person narrative that flows well. Each chapter ending makes you want to see what the heck is going on, great pacing, suspenseful, a little humor here and there...looking forward to more from Burgess.
