Tide Lords (Volume 1). Jennifer Fallon. Praise for The Immortal Prince

Tide Lords (Volume 1). Praise for The Immortal Prince. Fallon begins her latest epic asking the question of how an immortal, tired of immortality, might find his way to death? With her vivid style and snappy dialogue, Fallon embarks on a rollercoaster ride of mortal and immortal machinations, as the ruthless and immoral Tide Lords emerge from a thousand years of hiding into a world where everyone has attributed the stories of their existence to myth.

Jennifer Fallon explores this tantalizing puzzle in The Gods of Amyrantha, the second in her Tide Lords series. The Tide is turning and the Tide Lords' powers are returning with it. Cayal, the Immortal Prince, hero of legend, was thought to be only a fictional character. Cayal sure wishes that he was a piece of fiction-anything that would help him shuffle off this mortal coil. But even though he longs for a final death, things in the world keep pulling him back

You know when you read an author and love a series by them so you decide ‘Hey I’ll read something else by them from their earlier works’ and then you are so disappointed because the other series was better or both series seem the same? Well that was not the issue here at all.

I was impressed

This story so far is completely different than The Second Sons trilogy. I love the fresh take on immortals and what would happen when one ready to die but can’t.

There are so many great things going on and it was refreshing to get an immortal that wasn’t all good or bad but mostly in a state of ambivalence about everything. He has done some nice things in the 8000+ years he has been alive, but he has also done some completely atrocious things as well. It was great to listen to his story and remember that he is downplaying all the horrible things even as he tells you how horrible they were.

I like many of the characters. Arkady was probably my favorite. She is playing a part, her entire life a lie. She married a man, a duke no less to save her father. But he is a man with zero attraction to women and Arkady helps him keep his secret from the King and society.

I like them, they are a great couple. Sure they aren’t in love, but there is love between them and a great friendship. In this marriage Arkady gets freedom to study and learn and he gets a cover story so that he can diddle a dude without loosing face in society.

The mythos that is being created in this is fantastic. You have a set of immortals that when magic is in the world are terrible and pretty much make slaves of all human society. When that magic is gone they lay low and become forgotten until the magic tide returns. The Crasii (Animan Human Hybrids) are a very interesting twist to the story. The way they were made, the way they are treated by the humans as slaves and how dangerous they could be if they switched sides and decided to rise up against their masters. This could get good. Warlock and Boots are a great addition to the story and I really love them as a couple.

With great history to the story, multiple immortals in play, a cabal set on destroying them and an army of animal human hybrids this series has a lot of potential. If this is even a hint at how good the rest of the series is I am all in.

Looking forward to the next in the series.

I fell in love with the Epic Fantasy genre almost 50 years ago when I discovered the Ring Cycle. I have thrown away many books in this genre because of the lack of quality. When I find one that is outstanding, I can't help but get excited. The first book in Jennifer Fallon's "Tide Lords" epic fantasy is outstanding in every way. The plot Of The Immortal Prince is her typical intricate weaving of plots and subplots all of which keep you reading. You feel you know every character and find yourself laughing or saying "I would have done the same thing." She takes you to deeper levels of person's personality and has you asking yourself questions about "What would I do?" Such as, is Arkady doing the right thing by going along with her bitter enemy Jaxyn or not? Jennifer Fallon takes a great twist on the magic used in this book. How you get the magic, where you get the magic, and what you can do with the magic. The action of the plot is right on top and I'm sure there is much more to come in this series. I see this as a perfect balace between plot, characters, magic and action. If you haven't read any of Jennifer Fallon's works, she is definitely a master and you won't be disappointed.

Wow, I have always loved Jennifer Fallon, I have never been disappointed or put one of her books down before finishing it.

This book is so original and the concept is amazing, so... I am not going to elaborate on the story, you will need to read it for yourself. I only wish I didn't have to wait for the next one...

I am somewhat of a budding writer and ideas have always been pretty easy for me, its all the stuff in between that gets lost in translation sometimes. For this reason I find the concept, idea, and all the stuff in between so great in this book. I am a pretty avid SCIFI person, have been all my life and the ideas in this book were completely new to me.
All I can say is BRAVO Ms. Fallon, I don't think anyone would be disappointed in this book, it would be impossible.

The prolog didn't do much for me, but the story, went it started to unroll, blew me away. The Tide Lords are immortals that can feel the ebb and flow of the power of the sun, giving them insane power while the tide is in. But they have to spend centuries hiding their nature while the tide is out. Strong characters and constant twists makes this another classic for Fallon.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how good this book was and then had to buy the rest of the series. The plot unfolds at a good pace and I loved the relationship between the characters. You can't really predict the plot and there are some really good surprises along the way. This series reminds me a little bit of The Wheel of Time series where you have these immortals all with their own agendas living amongst mortals who are taken along for the ride (in most cases unknowingly). The books are well written and very hard to put down. I am hoping there is another book to come as I still have some questions unanswered after reading the final book in the series.

Jennifer Fallon has been rather hit and miss with me. I first read her Second Sons trilogy and to this day I still think it is one of the best trilogies that I have ever purchased. Because I liked The Lion of Senet so much I gobbled up her six Hythrun Chronicles books. I didn't enjoy that series nearly as much as Second Sons so I was hesitant to pick up the Immortal Prince right away. Well I am very glad that I took the chance. The plot is very good and without giving too much away I like the fact that your not sure if the main character is a good guy or not. Fallon does a great job of mixing action and politics with a romantic twist. I can't wait for the next Tide Lords book.
