A Mother's Homecoming book. It is an easy book to read although the subject matter makes it difficult at times. It is well-written and definitely realistic. Pamela Jo Wilson is returning to her hometown in Mississippi to try to make amends with her Mother. Pamela Jo had hit rock bottom and was now in AA and working her way through the twelve steps. One of the steps requires her to face her Mother and come to some kind of closure.

The bob-whites that had been singing when Pam had parked her car an hour ago had been replaced with the harmonious buzz of insects and the low hoot of a distant owl.

Tanya Michaels cided to visit Mae’s grave. She knew that if she waited until morning, Ed or Julia would probably insist on coming with her, wanting to be there for her, but she preferred to do this alone.

Undercover Amish is by Debby Giusti. This is the second book in the series. It deals with sex trafficing and exploitation. It also deals with the interaction between siblings.
Hannah Miller is searching for her sisters, Miriam and Sarah. The two girls were with their Mother going to try to find their Mother’s sister when their car was stopped and the two girls were kidnapped while their Mother was murdered. Hannah had left home several years earlier after an argument with her Mother. She had not kept in touch with them; but had never stopped thinking of her sisters. Now, she would never get a chance to even try to make amends with her Mother but she could try to find her sisters.
Hannah’s search led her to Amish country where she hoped to find a clue as to where the girls were. However, with Hannah came a man in a blue flannel shirt who made several attempts to abduct Hannah to find Miriam. Hannah had stopped to get fuel and when she left, she had seen this man who was also getting fuel. He made her nervous until he headed to the highway and went in the other direction than she intended to go. Somewhat relieved, she headed towards Willkommen. On the dark road, her car suddenly developed problems. She was forced to stop in the middle of nowhere. Finally, a car came towards her. Her hope for help vanished when it was the man who had been at the station. He determined that her radiator had a hole in it and offered to take her for help. When she refused, he began insisting and she fled. Her flight through the woods brought her to a deer stand and she climbed it, hoping to avoid the man. Just as he started to climb the ladder, a rustle in the bushes led him away. She fell asleep on the stand. She was awakened by someone climbing the ladder. Her fear heightened; but she was determined to fight back.
Lucas Grant was a former police officer who was intending to join the Amish faith. He worked at an Inn run by an Amish widow. He had resigned his commission after the death of his partner and the implication of both of them as being corrupt. Lucas had worked his way through some of his anger; but the Bishop was still reluctant to allow him to accept the Amish faith. The Bishop felt he still had to let go of more anger. Despite no longer being an officer, Lucas was still inclined to help protect the innocent. Thus, when he met Hannah, he felt the need to protect her.
Can Lucas protect Hannah from the man who is after her without succumbing to non-Amish ways? Will Hannah find her sisters? Will Hannah find peace for herself among the Amish?
This book helps one understand the Amish a little more although it does not dwell on their lifestyle. It does show how it is possible for the Amish to relate to someone in need who is not Amish.

If you've read a book by Tanya Michaels in the past, this one might surprise you. She may be known for her sense of humor, but Michaels reminds you she can write a more emotional story, too. In this story a recovering alcoholic finds the courage to come home to the ironically named Mimosa, Mississippi. Pamela Jo hasn't had an easy life. Her mother, a raging alcoholic, didn't set the best example. Turning to her boyfriend Nick led to an unplanned pregnancy and a hasty wedding. Between what had to have been postpartum depression, an overbearing mother-in-law, and an intense fear she would become a carbon copy of her own mother, she ran away from Mimosa and her family for what she thought was their own good. When her dreams of stardom didn't pan out, she turned to alcohol, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Now, she's back in Mimosa, and, as a part of her recovery, she has to come to terms with her mother. Her mother is long gone, but her husband and daughter are back in town, too. While her daughter, Faith, is curious about her mother, ex-husband, Nick, is downright furious. Pamela Jo must tread lightly around a husband she still has feelings for, a daughter she's afraid to corrupt or disappoint, an estranged aunt, and several other townspeople who all seem to have an opinion on her character.

I thought Michaels handled a ton of emotional angst well while realistically portraying how a broken family starts to put itself back together. Don't think humor is completely lacking, either! You'll find the same rich characters you've come to expect. My only complaint? The story simply wasn't long enough.

Overwhelmed at seventeen with a marriage and a baby Pamela Jo Wilson felt the pair would be better off without her as she suffers from depression and a dysfunctional relationship with her mom. With sadness and guilt she fled their home in Mimosa, Mississippi.

Now thirteen years later, a recovering alcoholic Pam has left California returning to Mimosa to see Mae Danvers Wilson, her mom; only to learn she died a few months ago. Her former husband Nick Shepard is hostile towards her for deserting him and especially their newborn Faith who he raised as a single dad. She would like time with her daughter, but Nick distrusts her and instinctively protects their offspring as he realizes he still loves Pam but expects at the first sign of problems she will flee and hurt Faith.

This is a super second chance family drama in which Pam makes the tale as a recovering alcoholic who also deals with depression and guilt issues. The support cast obviously Nick and Faith, but also the townsfolk and her California BFF coach Annabel enhance the terrific tale of A Mother's Homecoming.

This was a powerfully written love story. The characters were flawed, but realistic. Although Pam left her husband and new baby 12 years ago, you can't help but like her. She has had a rough life and is trying to move forward. I love happy endings and I was quite pleased with how this ended. We don't know if Pam & Nick will live happily ever after because Pam is taking it one day at a time. That made it realistic and believable.
