Award-winning author of historical romance. Your books are so like them and I love them. I have just read the untamed heiress and it was a mix of The grand Sophy and A civil Contract. But of course made for a modern audience.

The prior reviews reveal the basic story line so there is no need for a repeat. This is my 6th Julie Justiss novel. The prior novels were: A Most Unconventional Match ***, A Scandalous Proposal ****, The Proper Wife *****, The Three Gifts *** and The Wedding Gamble ****. I like stories that are not "boilerplate romance" works. I like a bit of unpredictability, good solid well developed characters, and a plot that has consistency and believability. Although I love romance novels, I feel that gratuitous sex scenes that add nothing to the story except graphic sex ruin an otherwise good read.

That said, I must say that Ms. Justiss scores well on all points. I appreciated the way she took the character of William Tavener from an admitted rake to respectability as he feels true love for the first time. I was impressed that Allegra Antinori was able to see past his admitted faults and learn who he really was down deep inside. I particularly enjoyed the closing scene with Allegra's Grandfather. You will too, but you have to read the book to enjoy it.

One little error should have been corrected during the editorial process. At the close of one chapter Will is given a list of names by Allegra which he promptly crushes into a ball and tosses on the ground. Then, at the beginning of the next he uncrumples the note and refers to it - just one little inconsistency.

Overall, I award this offering a solid four stars. I am looking forward to reading many more of her novels. As you can see above, I consider Ms. Justiss a four star author. You can't go too far wrong.

Sorry to say, this book was lacking in intrigue, excitement & interest. Too slow moving although a sweet love story.

This was my first Julia Justiss book and I hestated to purchase it thinking it was like every other Harlequin romance. I was pleasantly surprised and read many more of this author since.

Julia Justiss has a very exquisite style of writing by putting you into character and holding you there. You can almost feel the dust, hay, sweat and feel the tightness of the bodices as the women dress.

I hate that women were so submissive, but that was the period of the time and I also found an educational side to this book.

Lord William Tavener knows he must give up his womanizing ways to find a wealthy wife as his estates are impoverished and sinking deeper into debt. At the same time he gives up on hedonism for money and an heir and spare, Allegra Antinori, daughter of a broke musician, is having a season due to the kindness of caring relatives who hope she makes an affluent match.

When Allegra and Will first meet, he feels an attraction like nothing he ever felt before; she likes him, but apparently her affection goes to Rob Lynton, who she has secretly adored forever. Still although Will knows he cannot afford a relationship with Allegra, as neither brings any money to the table, he proposes marriage anyway. However, as she considers taking him up on his offer as Rob is an impossible dream, fate seems to want to keep them apart although she is beginning to fall in love with her persistent roguish suitor.

Although a late twist makes it easier on the lead couple, readers will enjoy this superb historical romance because of the witty exchanges between Allegra and Will. The captivating tale hooks sub-genre fans as the hero proves where there's a Will there's a way as he wants nothing but his beloved Allegra as his wife.

William Tavener has no money, enjoys women and gambling. His cousin desides that he must marry an heiress and start a new life. On his first night out he meets Allegra Antinori. Allegra Antinori is 1/2 English and 1/2 Italian , her father was musician and she plays the 'Cindrella' role. It was good story but something was missing - if you enjoy this author pick it up at the Library.

If you enjoy this genre I would suggest; To Wed a Wicked Prince ,The Naked Gentleman,A Lady's Pleasure and A Kiss Before Dawn .

The plot is clear from other reviews. While some characters are good the book did not grab me and I finished this fairly bored with the whole thing. A reasonable but not great romance. I only gave three stars as it did not rank with others of hers I have read. This is a book I am likely to pick up in a year or so and have completely forgotten I read it. Thank heavens my kindle has a better memory than I !

I can't stand that Allegra has a thing for a family member. It's really getting to me. It's not just that they're related, it's the fact that she keeps mentioning that he's her cousin. He's not even really her cousin, he's a distant relative, but she keeps calling him her cousin. It's starting to grate on my nerves. I understand that there isn't anything wrong with the relationship. I even know that she's not going to end up with Rob. But still. I don't like it. I give the book three stars because everything else is good about the book. If you don't have a problem that Allegra keeps calling Rob a close family relation and then mentioning marriage in the same sentence then the book won't be half bad for you. I just think it's ikky.
