Stirling Dale Silliphant (January 16, 1918 – April 26, 1996) was an American screenwriter and producer. He is best remembered for his screenplay for In the Heat of the Night, for which he won an Academy Award in 1967, and for creating the television. In the 1960s Stirling Silliphant started working in television, becoming co-creator and principal writer for two long-running series, Route 66, and The Naked City. Other television work included Salem’s Lot, Pearl, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In the late 1980s Stirling Silliphant moved to Thailand where he was working on The Fusion and The Day of Reckoning, and was involved in developing the region’s film industry.
