I've always liked both Lance Horner and Kyle Onstott, even if they're a bit over the top for me. I'd highly recommend them to anyone who likes a ripping good plot, with well delineated characters, good research and a racy imagination. Onstott's novels about Haiti and its rise from brutal French slavery has to be among the best written.

I think some readers might be offended by this story but, really,it IS
difficult to put this book down. If I may explain what this book is about
without explaining all the characters(so many characters),it is a lusty,
raw, kinda dirty book about white southern people who owned slaves in
the 19th century.
As I began reading it,I was shocked,so much so,I almost thought I was
doing something wrong, because,THIS BOOK IS SO ,EXPLICITLY BASE,
BRUTAL,VULGAR,GROSS...were people really like this back in the south???
Pretty shocking,is there any truth in this book??? For those who have not read
this series of books(Mandingo, drum, the Falconhurst series, etc.),prepare yourself
for something different. All the characters are so...casual in the life they live and
the cruelty, the inhumanity is accepted as the,"way things are", No wonder we
fought in a civil war!!! I hope my review has aroused some curiosity in these books.
I think it is going to take me a while to get over my shock and a word of advice, all
the SPOKEN dialog by the characters is in"local color" which means, southern accents.
It is difficult to read it fast. It must be read slowly to understand it otherwise, the reader
will be lost in the wording...
