Breaking a prey exclusion is handled the same way as violating chronicle .

Breaking a prey exclusion is handled the same way as violating chronicle tenets - you get stains that may lower your Humanity. To me, this seems a little too restricting, turning a preference for a certain food source into an absolute must with great potential to punish. Your Predator type shows your reflex or habit; it doesn’t mandate your behavior in the game. I get that they're trying to stress a vampire's inhumanity by denying them one of the most basic forms of human interaction, but there seems to have been a certain lack of joined-up thinking here. This made me chuckle as well.

So this is entirely my fault, but based on the covers I thought this series was a splatbook for Hunter the Reckoning, like the player's guide or the survival guide. Like I said, my fault for not looking at reviews first. As a novel, it's weak. The characters are bad and despite having Hunter slapped on the cover, this has nothing to do with Hunter the Reckoning. Lesson learned, and buyers beware.

I liked it, but it wasn't great. It seemed to take awhile to get the characters fleshed out and you really don't get the flavor of the different clans like I wanted to, but I'm glad I bought it.

Based on the title (and the colors), I thought this book and subsequent series was supposed to be devoted to Hunters. I was a little confused when it wasn't, but by no means disappointed. I think the book does an excellent job of portraying the World of Darkness and the denizens who inhabit it. While it certainly isn't a tale of earth-shattering proportions (no finding Holy Grails or hunting down Methuselahs or all-out Armageddon), the book still tells a good story. It gives more of a feel of the 'everyday' life of the Kindred and their dangerous existence. I liked the detail and focus the book had. By getting away from the WoD hot spots and big players, this book was able to really spend time drawing out the characters and their thoughts and plottings. If you want to read about high adventure and action, then forget this book. But, if you're more into story, plots (and counterplots), and characters then I think you'll definitely find it a worthwhile read.

I have to agree with the other reviewer, the advertising blurbs and labelling are very misleading. I normally find White Wolf books a bit slow paced. This book had almost no action in it until the last 50 pages. The rest was a long demonstration of the political and social attributes of the Michigan (except Detroit) vampire clans. They tend to behave and act like gangsters rather than creatures of the supernatural. Just not my piece of cake. Since I live in the area the book focuses on I found the setting badly misses the flavor of southern Michigan. I know it's an 'alternate' world but the author has failed to create an environment with any element of interest. This is a firm 'do not buy.'

as my title states this book is not what i excepted it to be. the title predetor and prey and the talk about this being the year of the hunter lead me too believe that this book was to be about humans or gifted humans that have been explosed to the world of darkness and were fighting back by whatever means they had.
All i got outta the first 150 pgs was what the back of the book pretty much states, micheal crying about his lost childe < over and over and over>. there are some other parts of the book that do not yet make any sence but i except 2-6 books to shed light on them <i hope> the writing was ok( for a first time writer) and the end was different, but i had my heart set on these 6 books being from the hunters point of view and of course about the hunters. This book has no human or inhuman hunter. it could have easly been any other WOD vampire book.
the cover it has even leads one to think its a hunter book! but has nothing to do with this book or its story.
unless you just have to get the lastest white wolf book i would pass on this book if you wanted anything on the year of the hunter or a solid vampire story line. books 2-6 maybe be better can be much more of a let down

I have read the clan novel-series, and I liked it. But I loved this book! This book shows you, in a wonderful way how it must be,to be a vampire. You get a fantastic insight into the vampire mind. Intrigue and suspense are the keywords in this book. After reading this book you will understand why a Ventrue is an ideal prince, how Toreador operate and why the Sabbat is a viable alternative to the camarilla. If you are looking for physical action and bonecrushing, go watch an action-movie! If you are a hunter fan you can ignore this book, this book is solely about vamires. There is not a hunter in sight. This is a great book, and Carl Bowen is a great writer with prospects.

When I bought this book, I hoped to get a further insight into the world of the hunters, and - as a bonus - some interesting vampirecharacters, too. What I got were tons of Vampires, NO HUNTERS AT ALL, and a lousy story. It took quite a while to work through such a boring book. Even Vampirefans will be surely bored to death by some childish Vampire powergames on such a low level.
