I love having these two together in one book. Garlock does not insult your intelligence, and she has a way of making you really know and love her characters. Garlock is one of those rare authors who makes me feel as if I can see in my mind's eye an era long gone. Her descriptions and dialogue are always top notch and I never fail to enjoy reading her work. I started off with all her westerns, and have since moved on to her later work, most of which center around the World Wars and Great Depression.

One of the world's most beloved novelists, New York Times bestselling author Dorothy Garlock is the author of over fifty books that celebrate the indomitable spirit. Here, in one volume for the very first time, are the novels that tell the story of two of her most memorable lovers.

WITH HEART: In the midst of the Great Depression, Kathleen Dolan is en route to a new life at the Rawlings Gazette in Oklahoma. But even before she arrives, trouble strikes. Hijackers try to steal her car, and she discovers that Rawlings is steeped in dirty secrets. Johnny Henry, a handsome rancher, had come to her rescue on the road. Can he now protect this feisty journalist from the powerful man who will stop at nothing to silence her?

AFTER THE PARADE: The Second World War is over, and Johnny Henry is coming home from the Pacific - but not to the arms of his wife, Kathleen. Misunderstanding and tragedy had separated them before he shipped out, and pride and pain still keep them apart. But when a stalker plunges Kathleen into a real-life nightmare, her only hope will be Johnny... and the love that can bring them through every battle, especially the ones in their hearts.

MY REVIEW: These are the last two stories in the Dolan/Henry family series. Ms. Garlock's books can always stand-alone however, so there's no need to read the other books in this series unless you really want to. I would highly suggest read "With Hope" though as it is where we are first introduced to Johnny when he was about eighteen and many of the other characters, including both his sisters and cousins who you will meet again in "After the Parade."

I'm not sure if most people will love or dislike Johnny. He has to be one of the most stubborn and emotionally closed-off men I've ever read about. That being said, he's kind and compassionate as well and although he downright irritated me at times, I thought he was wonderful at others. Kathleen on the other hand was simply wonderful! Smart, sassy and independent, she's a strong woman but still soft and sweet too. Both stories have delightful supporting characters as well.
