Home Gerald Durrell Rosy Is My Relative. Rosy is my relative, . At seven o’clock every morning Adrian would stand in his attic bedroom and commune thus with his reflection. The mirror was a large one with a wide gilt frame, and its surface was grey and pitted, like a tired iced pond at the end of a hard winter. It reflected both Adrian and his room in a sort of grayish haze, as though the whole scene was being viewed through a large cobweb. Rosy stopped swaying and watched his approach with twinkling eyes. I then asked him if his name was Adrian Rookwhistle, to which he replied, ‘That is my name’. I then asked him if he would step down to the station with me to help us in our enquiries, to which he replied, ‘Look officer, I can explain everything’. 6. Here Constable Dray paused and beamed at the magistrate.

I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time. It's laugh out loud funny at times, and generally tongue-in-cheek with delightful characters, including Rosy, all well described and appealing. I was turned on to this book because the author founded the zoo on the isle of Jersey where the actor Henry Cavill (Superman) sponsors an annual fund-raising run and day of festivities for the Durrell Wildlife Foundation. That's on May 13th this year. Henry is from the island and visited the zoo often. Since I'm a big fan and follow Henry's activities, I knew of the Durrell Challenge and when the book came up on one of my suggested reading lists, I immediately recognized the author's name. I also have enjoyed the PBS series based on the Durrell family. I didn't know what to expect from the book, just thought I'd try out Gerald Durrell and I'm so glad I did. A hilarious tale. I laughed so hard I was crying. I first had this as a teenage but made the mistake a decade ago of loaning it to a friend This is a repurchase. I bought two copies just to be extra safe this time. Give it a try I think you will enjoy

Good reading, humorous, and almost believable! However, remind your younger audience that the referrals to alcohol consumption and "imbibing" are not to be regarded so nonchalantly!

probably rates as one of the very best reads of all time. Witty,at time so hillarious that you shed tears and have to stop reading to ease the pains in the stomach. I read Rosie first when it was first released. I have reread it many times since and the effect is always the same. Others to whom I have loaned the book agree..consequently my copy tends to go 'walkabout' and I have to rebuy.
Do your soul a favour and read Rosie, you wont regret it.

Anything written by Mr Durrell is amazing. Throughout many years I have read and reread many of his books. As always they are lovely to read, not only because they are well written, but gentle, amusing, educational. Well done!
