by Ken Follett

The Modigliani Scandal. In The Modigliani Scandal I tried to write a new kind of novel, one that would reflect the subtle subordination of individual freedom to more powerful machinery.

The Modigliani Scandal. In this immodest project I failed. It may be that such a novel cannot be written: Even if Life is not about individual choice, perhaps Literature is.

I'll press o. ' ''No, wait. I'll give you a lift. We must talk about the Modigliani exhibition. In a comer, underneath a rather poor charcoal drawing, were two large Sainsbury's tote bags. We haven't had time these last few days. Willow pointed across the gallery. 'Somebody's left their shopping," he said. A carton of soap powder stuck out of the top of one. Willow walked over and looked more closely.

Modigliani Scandal book. Paperback, 279 pages. The Modigliani Scandal - Ken Follett. Published April 12th 1996 by MacMillan General Books (first published 1976). The Modigliani Scandal. 0330345052 (ISBN13: 9780330345057). Arguably, the most un-Follettesque Ken Follett novel which I've read till date. The critics praised it as sprightly, ebullient, light, bright, cheery, light (again) and fizzy".

Having read most of Follett's books and enjoying them, I was surprised at the confusion of the writing. This book was so different from his trilogy's and other books, I wondered if he even wrote it. Using the same name Peter for two characters in the book added to the confusion. There are so many names available, why repeat a name as well as having characters with the same letter.
When I was finished with the book, I was sure it was written by a straw, not him.
Very disappointing. Perhaps he learned a lot as he went along as this was an earlier book, but I would say to others, skip this one and move to the more recent books especially his trilogy books, they are great.

Raniconne
Follett is a masterful writer and rarely anyone covers historic references as he does. But once in a while, every author gets sloppy, for one reason or another and writes a book so intertwined, that they forget Occam's razor. This book was in my opinion, his great dissapointment

I was a little leery after reading some of the other reviews. I thought the early novel might not live up to the usual quality of Follett. But it did! Great story and well-written!

As someone who has read 17 of Ken Follett's novels this one falls a little short of his genius as a novelist. It is very short on Ken Follett's standard of mega length novels. The plot is very engaging and when I finished I was left wanting a longer novel on the same subject.

Cherry The Countess
The style of writing does not do justice to other works of Ken Follet's. While I realize that the British often conflict with American grammar, the use of using the same adjective in multiples within the same paragraph, is not good writing. The characters were also difficult to follow; the book is disconnected.

Ken Follett is one of my favorite authors. However, the Kindle version of this book is poorly written. Contractions are broken up often, and possessives as well. The number 7 was used for a capital J in the word "Jesus." The broken up contractions and possessives made for some confusing reading.

NiceOne
Of all this authors books, this one fell just a bit short of how I feel about the usual fast pace, page turning "can't put it down" novels. However, let me say, if you have ANY interest in Italian ART and the exquisite countryside destinations, you will certainly enjoy this
amazingly wonderful journey throughout each page. I look forward to reading each and every publication this author writes. It just happened this was not one of my favorites...but don't let me stop you from reading it. Readers are subjective critics.

The story was excellent but the abundance of typographical errors was very off-putting. Instead of the word "corner" the word "comer" was used throughout the book. There were also a number of formatting errors. Not the quality I expect from Kindle.
