Short review. The premise sounded more exciting than the book turned out to be. Okay writing. But I was let down by the plot. Not as sinister or exciting as I'd hoped. It passed the time and was an okay read but less than I expected. Not compelling. I can't quite put my finger on what was missing. The protagonist was into alternative medicine, along with conventional medicine. Not into that. But something else was missing. I just never felt a sense of danger. Sorry if I can't be more precise.

Really enjoyed this book. Pregnant women are dying a horrible death. Finding out why proves to be difficult. There's a coverup, alot of greed, and self imposed ego keeping the right Dr's from helping these women. It's a good paced story, one I just had to finish to find out what was going on. There's romance, murder, and those who think they are above the law. Really really good!

I really enjoyed this book. It was full of twists and turns right up to the end. I also appreciated how there was some focus on Western medicine and Alternative Health care. I use both my GO and Alternative carefree probs on a regular basis but have rarely seen it brought up in novels.

I do enjoy Michael Palmer's medical mysteries. There were a few sections of this book that seemed too wordy and I ended up skimming through those as they seemed to go on and on. Despite that I still enjoyed this book.

I just discovered Michael Palmer's work, and I'm hurrying to remedy that deficiency. Dr. Palmer writes tightly plotted medical fiction that holds the reader in suspense and keeps them off-balance with new twists and turns. This book kept me reading, because there were few, if any, spots where I could say, "I'll put the book down and read some more later." It's a true page-turner, in every sense of the word.
The emphasis on alternative medicine was something of an initial turn-off for me, since I'm a physician grounded in conventional medicine. However, Dr. Palmer has definitely done his homework, and eventually I found myself quite interested by some of the material he brings out. All that aside, from the standpoint of well-done medical suspense, this book is excellent.

Really hard to put this book down! Medically accurate and believable, with well developed characters and twists and turns that keep you guessing all the way through.
