An interesting book but the title should be The Perfectly English Spy. He was not a good spy or perhaps not even a spy at all but a spy manager. He was so cowed by members of the perceived upper classes that he never pursued the likes of Blunt, Burgess, Maclean, Philby and many others as a tougher leader would have and should have done. They did enormous damage for years after their perfidy was known. Nevertheless a fairly complete story about a fascinating period in our national history

Wonderful story, very well written. An important description of a crucial moment in modern history, when MI5 and the SIS were starting to wear long trousers and the UK/US relationship was starting off on a wobbly footing. A must read!
