Edwards was born William Blake Crump in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His parents divorced when he was young and he moved to Los Angeles with his mother. This bright musical introduced him to Jack Lemmon, one of many actors to feature regularly in Edwards's later films. He began work as an extra, partly thanks to his stepfather, Jack McEdward, a film production manager. During his early 20s he appeared in some decent movies, including A Guy Named Joe (1943), which gave him income and time to write. Edwards then wrote and directed two films for the popular singer Frankie Laine, Bring Your Smile Along (1955) and He Laughed Last (1956).
Top Ten Jack Lemmon Films
Top Ten Jack Lemmon Films. Updated on June 9, 2019. Jack Lemmon is an actor who was beloved for his comedic work, yet critically acclaimed and revered for his more dramatic fare, as well. An Oscar-winning dramatic actor who was just as famous for the comedies he made with writer/director Billy Wilder and his memorable comedic team-ups with Walter Matthau. While both Jack and Shirley MacLaine give career-defining performances in this film, Fred MacMurray was, actually, cast against type for his role as the philandering Mr. Sheldrake.
