Dabney's Sacred Rhetoric is an absolute masterpiece! It is a full course on preaching, covering everything from exegetic questions to homiletic concerns; from structure and logic, to word choice; from elocution to hand gestures. What distinguishes this volume from other books on preaching is that one never gets the impression that Dabney's rules are merely his personal preference. Dabney is incredibly learned and he's not afraid to get very specific about the constituent parts of a sermon.
Paperback – April 6, 2010. by Robert L. Dabney (Author), Presbytherian Committee of Publication. I was introduced to Dabney's Sacred Rhetoric as I was taking a homiletic class at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. It is not an easy book to read, however, if you dive into this book and study Dabney's homiletic/sacred rhetoric method, I have no doubt that it will improve your al skills. I personally believe this is the book for every preacher should read. Banner of Truth is not releasing the Sacred Rhetoric anymore.
