I could relate to this book in several ways. First, my husband is legally blind, second I play the piano and do concerts, third, my girlfriend gave her kidney to another person. It was an excellent book. I am also a believer and appreciated his testimony of his salvation and trust in the Lord. I also grew up in a musical family that sang together. So yes, I loved it because of all the ways I understood what he was going through. May the Lord continue to bless his music and his marriage. It takes a lot of work, patience and love to be married to a blind person. But his focus is in the right place. Happy Easter, Scott.

I was introduced to Scott through Season 8 of American Idol. His talent, his close-knit family & the way he gamely tackled group choreography impressed me. By Faith Not By Sight is a deeper look into his life.

Scott's childhood years are chronicled as well as his gift for the piano and his diagnosis of congenital blindness. He enrolled at ASU at age 14 and on the day he graduated at age 19, Scott got the news that his kidneys were failing.

The book is nothing short of inspiring. One of the most moving stories detailed Scott's mother taking him to the beach and letting him run by himself for the first time as a young child. Many people would let either a visual impairment or kidney failure stop them from moving to a foreign country for a year, but Scott was able to do this in spite of both. He lived in London as a Marshall Scholar, continuing his music education.

Upon his return to the United States, Scott's health deteriorated. He vividly portrays life with a life-threatening illness, including the crippling depression that endangered his strong faith. Dialysis is an ominous cloud, and his first experience with it nearly takes his life. His eventual kidney transplant is a sigh-of-relief "thank God" moment.

And for those of you who are American Idol fans, you won't be disappointed. Scott takes you behind-the-scenes. The pace is breakneck. The environment is high-stress - only intensified when it is discovered that Scott's sister is incredibly sick with kidney failure as well. His time on Idol is riddled with on-stage sound problems. Scott mentions moments with fellow contestants Matt Giraud, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. In a chapter entitled Finale Follies, Scott gracefully addresses last-minute production decisions that left him largely silent during the final show of Season 8.

The book closes with the realization of Scott's lifelong dream to go on an arena tour with American Idols Live & the start of his relationship with the woman who would end up as his wife.

A truly beautiful and inspiring read. You will not regret the purchase of this book.

When I saw Scott on American Idol I knew that I must know more about him and his journey. I emailed and had a couple of conversations with his father (because Scott was not able to answer all emails while on the show). We had just found out our 3 1/2 month old son was completely blind and I was grasping at straws looking for hope....and there was he was....like a guiding light in front of me. My son is now almost 4 but this book shows the hardships that families go through when things go wrong. However, they tend to turn out just the way God intended...perfect! I strongly suggest this book to anyone who needs motivation, inspiration and a feeling that most anything can be accomplished if you understand the struggle and show people you can do anything you set your mind to!!!

I originally bought this book after hearing Scott speak. This book tells his story but goes into more depth. I was so inspired I bought more as gifts.
