I like that this Bible actually uses God's name instead of hiding it behind a title "The LORD" in all caps. Because to be saved people must know and use the name of Yahweh or Jehovah.

I like that this Bible actually uses God's name instead of hiding it behind a title "The LORD" in all caps. Psalm 83:18 also says that Yahweh or Jehovah is the most high and the only true God. Matthew 4:4-8 Jesus says that it is his father alone, Yahweh or Jehovah, that must be worshipped alone and no one else. I only remove one star because this copy online is missing the pages I was looking for. Please visit j. rg for more info about God's name Jehovah or Yahweh

This translation does not stand in the Tyndale tradition and lacks the familiar English Biblish. It reads smoothly, and in some cases sacrifices familiar phrasing for correct interpretation

The New Jerusalem Bible is a revision of the Jerusalem Bible (1966)

The New Jerusalem Bible is a revision of the Jerusalem Bible (1966). The revision seems to have been motivated chiefly by a desire to make the version more accurate. 1 The preface mentions Professor Kenneth Grayston and Canon Douglas Webster as being especially worthy of notice in connection with this work. Skeptical views on the authenticity of various books, on the truthfulness of the biblical narratives, and even on the inspiration of the teachings of the Bible, are presented as if they were uncontroversial. The translation is generally made more literal.

This is an excellent edition of the New Jerusalem Bible. It's small and compact, perfect for putting in a handbag, briefcase, backpack, etc. The translation is beautiful, perfect for setting under a shade tree for a relaxed, peaceful reading. Some people have complained about the size of the type and a lack of extensive commentary as in the large, highly annotated edition, but what did they expect in 6.4 x 4.6 x 1.7 POCKET EDITION, especially when the first sentence says, "Contains the complete text of the Regular Edition, WITH CONDENSED NOTES AND INTRODUCTIONS (emphasis mine)."

Honestly, this is a beautiful Bible, the real leather binding is smooth and elegant to touch, with gold lettering on the cover face and spine. It carries the Nihil obstst and Imprimatur so you know it is an accurate translation that contains the complete canon of 73 books. The text is appropriately sized for a small volume and the type is crisp and clear, and has text headings in bold type, which makes it easier to find a particular passage, and it also has a marker ribbon. I love the supplements that are located in the back - a theological glossary, a chronological table, an index of persons (with the book, chapter, and verse where they are mentioned), and a table of measures and money.

This New Jerusalem Bible is the finest pocket Bible I have ever seen, and I'm proud to have it in my Bible collection.

I got totally the wrong book. It was not the size advertised (but much smaller), it did not have a symbol on it, the print was so small my wife (it was for her birthday) can not read it, and it was not leather bound. I sent feedback complaining to the seller, and got no response whatsoever. My wife liked it, because it was still nice looking and "It's the thought that counts," but I did not like it - because she cannot read it, but now uses it as decoration (print is to small)... She still uses mine to study, but this was to be her first Bible bought just for her. I will buy another of course, but I got ripped off on this one.

I've wanted for some time to have this Bible version in my library. I'm not disappointed. It's easy to read and discuss. Readings from this are very effective for an inclusive congregation.

This maybe an updated New Jerusalem Bible, but got me so angry I did not look. It has no index, no foot notes. Why did they sell this Bible with no table of contents etc

I ordered this because I wanted a second copy of the standard edition of this masterful translation and commentary on the Christian Bible. What I received was a "leather" bound reader's edition. The reader's edition has been stripped of all notes and learning aids. The two are not nearly equivalent. Make sure you communicate with your seller before ordering.

What more can I say about such a publication other than that it is immensely more easily readable that scores of others bearing the same Title. It is so much more readable and understandable that I am easily led to it for deeper understanding of an otherwise difficult subject matter. One wouldn't be disappointed if acquiring it and I would be immensely surprised to find that anyone who currently has it, would disagree.

I have had this book for years and I also had another copy. I hope whoever has them now is enjoying them as much as I did. This is a small book and until recently I had it in my possession. I love the way it is written, both old and new testaments. If you haven't read it yet, please do. In places it is so poetic. I have enjoyed it so much that I bought another copy when I left the old one behind...

Edition I received was a sturdy, very stiff, rough textured, bonded leather in a black cardboard slipcase, not the genuine leather with zipper closure. Well made and built to last. Small, vintage looking typeset. Notes and book introductions are different and much less extensive than the standard NJB. They are a nice mix between the traditional and more contemporary scholarship approaches. The trade off between portability and readability may make this edition unsuitable for some.
