Let me start of by stating that I can see how some reviewers have issues with the book. As a pure bible study, it doesn't quite have enough depth and as pure novel for entertainment purposes, it may not flow as smoothly as other books.

However, I think in this case, it is also a strength. In my case, I read this for pure enjoyment. As a new Christian, the author brings the stories to life. In my case, I've never read the bible cover to cover and have never even heard of some of the characters and stories . For me, at least, the mysteries were not predictable. Further, because of the references, I was forced to slow down and take a look beyond the surface and actually look things up- which I would never do in a typical novel. I actually spent time reviewing the questions in the the study portion and Isn't that the point?

This is not a book that is a quick skim nor is it going to bury you with details. But i absolutely love the idea. I found it enjoyable, informative and at least in a few of the mysteries, surprising. It might make you take a look at things from a different perspective. I highly recommend it for a new Christian and an alternative option for a bible study group.

I got a whole new idea on how to read the Bible and reach for an understanding beyond the obvious. Len Bailey's ability to tell the time travel story in the Sherlock Holmes personality and speech pattern was amazing but he told each "mystery" in a way that opened my mind to possibilities in the Bible stories that I wouldn't normally have seen. His follow up questions are especially helpful in my effort to sort out the story behind the story. My small study group is using this for our current study, and I expect them to enjoy this as much as I have. Thank you, Len, for making the Bible much more interesting!!

As one with shelves of books with Sherlock Holmes stories and studies I can say this is one of the very best. Holmes and Watson have the use of a time machine that takes them back to Biblical times. The purpose is to solve ten mysteries of the Bible using strictly the scriptures and deduction. Each story is fascinating and some of the mysteries involve questions like what three words did Jesus write when the Pharasees

Has the vocabulary of Sherlock Holmes, Len Bailey did a great job capturing Sherlock's tone, attitude, and sense of humor. I would recommend it to any Sherlock fan (in fact I already have). It takes places in the Bible that have been mis-represented, mis-understood, and passages that have been used out of context; these Scriptures referenced in the book explains them in detail in Sherlock fashion. Also Len Bailey gives the Scripture References so as your reading you can trace what is happening, what is taking place right along with The Bible (enjoyed this aspect).

Great Book would Recommend taking the time to read. Also take the time to read the Bible along with the book so that you can trace the events as they happen.

One of my absolute favorite characters is Sherlock Holmes. I've read every story written by Sir Author Conan Doyle...this isn't his writing...but for sure it IS in his style!

What if our favorite duo were tossed through time to explain Biblical Mysteries that man has been trying to figure out? Did God really make it THAT hard to understand...or did He? Is the answers right in front of us all along, and we've over complicated the mystery? Read on and find out!

Given the plethora of Holmes's around, I guess it was inevitable that we Christians would have our own version, sooner or later. Len Bailey has worked hard to "Victorianise" his Holmes (cf the"modernised" ones around now), tho his Holmes must have been a fattie, given the focus on the eating that he and Watson do around the place. What I liked was that the "cases" tackled in the book were either sufficiently obscure, or at least told in an obscure(tho entertaining) way, that the answers the detective was going to come up with, were not obvious until the end. This kept me looking forward to my lunchtime reading session each day. Whether you agree with the final solution or not (mostly I did), it was an enjoyable way of thinking thru some bible details that one may otherwise put aside. The other annoying elements for me were Holmes' persistent agnosticism, (tho I can see a reason for the author to keep it this way) and the over-reliance on "coincidence" to help Holmes along in his thought process. This did start to grate a little by the end.
That said ... a good read. Worth the effort.

This is a well written book, true to the "Sherlockian" characters of Holmes and Watson, the times and settings. Mrs. Hudson is given some poetic license, but stays true to Doyle's character. You enter Sherlock's world, his silent unseen guest, across time on the actual site of the occurrence real time, to witness him use his special investigative skills to deduce and thus shed light on particular so-called unanswered or unexplained questions in Scripture. He also uses his deductive skills to bring into the forefront not only what the Bible portrays, but also the inter-connective links oftentimes missed, or not perceived important.

This also is an unusual book. It gave me an entirely new understanding of a way to read the Scriptures, and a glimpse of a new perspective of Christ, His mission (especially regarding Lazarus) and His final steps to the cross. It was a hard book to put down, and I will never read the Bible in the same way. It is an excellent book for discussion.

A fun book, well written, with interesting conclusions about 10 mysteries of the Bible. Good details about Victorian London and Sherlock Holmes, and Jesus' time. A couple of stories are a bit gruesome, but realistic for Bible times.
