I have read quite a few books about the movie industry, especially during the golden age of the factory system and this book offers nothing new. It reads more like a textbook with sources noted in the body instead of at the end or the bottom of the page. Maybe something for absolute beginners but there are way better (and more interesting) reads out there.

Starting with the studies and its leaders, executives and producers, passed review each of the elements involved in the execution of a Hollywood movie, at least during the golden age. Thus we speak of the directors, stars, supporting actors, writers, music makers, set designers, editors, makeup artists and so on. Especially the author gives credit to the group of publishers whose zeal and dedication are what shape the final product. Very enlightening.

Good department-by-department overview of the old Hollywood studio system. Not a lot that's new, but it's very well organized and could be used as a sort of systematic introduction to to lead interested readers to additional sources. Well written and entertaining.
