I read these books as a child and now my daughter is reading them. The book is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous pictures...it is probably most appropriate for kids well into second grade. My daughter just finished first, and while she can read it aloud, she struggles with comprehension of the story. I am so excited, though, to be able to share this story with my daughter!

My daughter and I really enjoy reading the American Girl stories together. This one was especially nice because Samantha shows her love for her friend, not so much empathy, but love. Other friends also read this book with us so we did a book study and the girls (2nd and 3rd grade) enjoy making their own speeches. Read it and you will understand.

I want my granddaughter to have good quality reading material. This series gives her a chance to learn some history, and to learn some lessons on sharing and compassion at a reasonable price for me, her grandmother. I purchased this set as a used set, but was most happy with the quality provided.

Great price and shipped fast but a little bit musty smelling, maybe even a tiny bit of mold which is too bad. Not sure if I should give it to kids.
