Strengths - cultural richness (Dominican Republic culture and Spanish vocabulary), relatable middle school experiences, exciting plotweaknesses - mature content and graphic imagery (nonetheless, the book treats the subjects of rape, menstration, and murder, among others, in a responsible way)group read7-9th grade. The suspense in the plot leaves the reader wanting to know more.

As a Latin American woman myself, I felt totally connected to the story, the language is rich, story is fresh and it gives you a feeling that even tough there is so much injustice and cruelty, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, it also gives you an incredible view into how you love your country so much that you are willing to do anything so your children would have a better tomorrow. I absolutely would have my daughter when she turns 14 read this book, I think it would be great reading material for a teenager.

Me dejo mucho.
