Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, known in English as Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian author, considered one of the best writers of all time. His novels War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1877) are masterworks in the genre of Realist fiction. The young Tolstoy served in Crimea in the War of 1812, which influenced much of his work. He wrote numerous plays, short stories and novellas, including The Death of Ivan Ilyich (1886) and Family Happiness (1859).

The title of the book comes from Luke 17:21. It is a non-fiction work of the famous Russian author Leo Tolstoy. He wrote it after many years of reflexion on Christianity and Jesus. A Confession - an essay by Leo Tolstoy on his religious thoughts - shows the great author in process of looking for answers to profound questions that trouble all who take them on: "What will come of my life?" and "What is the meaning of life?" these are questions whose answers were an absolute requirement for Tolstoy.
