Otiel
This is the first of a 3 volume history of Andrew Jackson which Robert Remini devoted over 16 years of his life in putting together. This book is well researched and reads very smoothly. It you read all 3 volumes they get better with each volume. Remini just develops a deep appreciation for the exceptional contribution Andrew Jackson has made to this nation. Jackson was the first popularly elected president. He demonstrated
exceptional leadership capabilities and vision throughout his life. Jackson, after his first term, had the highest rating of any president up to that time.
I'm happy to have this historical record to enjoy and use as an evaluation of "populism" vs "elitism". Jackson became so powerful that he effectively ran the country even after he left office until his final illness and death. Jackson is one of the most underrated presidents in our
history. This is a man I would have been very happy to have known.

While there is a bit of great man worship in Remini's series on Jackson, this stands out as the most important person. We Follow Jackson fron a financially challenged land speculator and sometime lawyer to the hero of New Orleans and a General out of control in Florida. A superior read.

Brilliant and detailed biography. Jackson was a man with great leadership qualities but he also had an unpredictably violent nature.
