Levi Coffin (October 28, 1798 – September 16, 1877) was an American Quaker, abolitionist, farmer, businessman and humanitarian. An active leader in the Underground Railroad in Indiana and Ohio, some unofficially called Coffin the "President of the Underground Railroad," estimating that three thousand fugitive slaves passed through his care. The Coffin home in Fountain City, Wayne County, Indiana is now a museum, sometimes called the Underground Railroad's "Grand Central Station".

The Kindle version of this Levi Coffin autobiography is clearly an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) publication. The Coffin name has a long history in England, predating the establishment of the Coffin estate there in the 1100's. The name has nothing to do with the manufacture of coffins. More than that, it is an OCR digital book that no one bothered to proofread, or if they did, didn't care that there are numerous formatting, spelling, and nonsensical errors on every page. That said, Levi Coffin's reminiscences are absolutely riveting and better than any historical fiction novel. 4 people found this helpful.
