Puccini: A critical biography . Mosco Carner (born Mosco Cohen) was an Austrian-born British musicologist, conductor and critic. He wrote on a wide range of music subjects, but was particularly known for his studies on the life and works of the composers Giacomo Puccini and Alban Berg. This is a reproduction of a book believed to be published in the 1950s. This book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original artifact, or were introduced by the scanning process.
In 1958, he published one of his most important works, Puccini: a Critical Biography. Mosco Carner died of a heart attack at the age of 80 while on vacation in Stratton, Cornwall. The book was dedicated to the memory of his wife, Helen, who had died in 1954. He was survived by his second wife, Hazel Carner (née Sebag-Montefiore), whom he had married in 1976.

Mosco Carner, a biographer of Puccini and a conductor, critic and musicologist, died of a heart attack Saturday while on vacation. He was 81 years old and lived in London. Dr. Carner was born in Vienna and educated at Vienna University and the Vienna Music Conservatory. He began his career as a conductor the Danzig State Theater. His ''Puccini: A Critical Biography,'' (1958) was considered indispensable by the London music critic Edward Greenfield. The work was translated into Italian and for it Mr. Carner was awarded the Silver Medal of the Italian Government in 1964.
Divided into three parts, this book addresses all aspects of Puccinni's life and work. Puccini: Critical Biography. Part I, The Man, gives the facts of the composer's somewhat stormy life, quoting extensively from his own letters. Part II, The Artist, calls on the resources of modern psychology in assessing his personality and its curious limitations, and the unconscious springs of his creative processes. Part III, The Work, is a detailed guide to each opera, both music and libretto, with a synopsis of opera plots.
